His Majesty on Display and Other Poems

by Pat Severin

His Majesty on Display

How enthralled I was today

At the sky’s magnificence at dusk,

It’s subtlety of color,

The turquoise striations

Amidst the apricot streams,

Interspersed with the billowy white clouds,

Sun ebbing in one direction

And still bright in another.

I couldn’t help but look at them all

As the Master’s brush strokes,

Beautifully ephemeral in their movement

As if I could catch a glimpse of Him

If I moved my head just a bit.

But I was too hypnotized to try,

Afraid I might miss

His fleeting next stroke,

His majesty on display.

Spring Time Winds

As winter winds diminish and the warmer winds prevail,

At last I can begin to think of shedding this travail.

Like many who have felt the same, this spring time I will keep,

For as I’m growing older every chill is felt so deep.

My frigid body longs for warmth and sometimes makes me feel

So cold as if an icicle’s impaled me till I kneel.

It’s there in prayer I plead for spring and sprouting flowers anew,

The Father’s touch encouraging each blossom to imbue

A whisper of the beauty that in summer time will bloom

Reminding me that in a month I’ll wonder if there’s room.

For now the spot is barren but I soon anticipate

The birth of sprouts emerging as I see God’s hand create.

Exhilaration fills my soul with thoughts that spring is coming

So slowly, softly, yet oft times my ears can hear it humming.

And as it does it seems as though it tiptoes quietly

Until it finds the soil that’s turned and readied there by me.

For soon my garden blooms again and rapture fills my soul,

A gathering of flowers like a tonic can console.

And then when stresses try to tear euphoric moments mine,

They will have no effect on me, I’m feeling quite sublime.

Storms

The storms of life, they take their toll,

Can make you feel untethered.

Where are the answers that you need?

Or should each storms be weathered?

Sometimes you can and other times

It’s just too much to bear!

What do you do at times like that?

Where are the answers, where?

You feel so lost, misunderstood,

Forgotten and alone.

Are things as desperate as they seem

Or are they overblown?

Now, what, what do you do right now?

There is no end in sight.

You feel your life is flying by,

You’re in eternal night.

We all have times when we feel lost

That leave us wondering why.

We cannot find the light we seek;

We look to heaven and sigh.

I’m here to say that where you look,

Is always the solution.

For Heaven is the place He dwells

And God dispels confusion.

So go to Him and plead your case.

He’ll lend His comfort, aid.

For God has sent His Son for you.

Your debt has all been paid.

Just come to Him and He will give

The answers that you need.

Your doubts will cease, He’ll give you peace,

At last you will succeed...

In understanding what He brings

To those who come in prayer.

You’ll find true peace of mind with Him

And find He’s always there.

Sometimes God calms the storm but sometimes

He lets the storms rage and calms His child.
