Step Into the Light

by Megan J. Conner

STEP INTO THE LIGHT

Humanity—

frail and failing

full of doubt

fear

insecurity

sorrow.

Our bruised hearts

sound the call of retreat.

We burrow deep inside

shells of self-protection.

Yet—

isolation does not equate to sanctuary.

Wall after wall,

we cage ourselves in.

Within our inner sanctum

voices of accusation and worry

ascend from gentle whispers

to delirious, incessant shouts.

Hope is rarely ascertained in seclusion.

Come out of the darkness;

step into the light.

Winter has passed.

New life awaits.

Spring is here.

You were not destined

for

despair.
