TUMNUS

by Henrietta DuCap

The roses bloomed in

St. Mary’s Passage

That November day,

My floral umbrella deflecting

The warm English rain.

I took no coat, didn’t

Even open the wardrobe—

I felt the raindrops turn

To snowflakes as

I met the stone Faun’s eyes,

Awaiting the Lion’s breath.

Christmas was coming.
