Prayer of the Overwhelmed

by Pat Severin

PRAYER OF THE OVERWHELMED

O, Lord,

I’m feeling lost, confused

by so many things in my life.

I know you’re there

but you seem so far away.

I long for an audible word from you,

to actually hear your voice.

Is that even possible?

I feel like I’m completely alone.

The future looks so bleak

and I’ve tried to adopt a positive attitude,

but, though I’ve tried and tried

I simply can’t,

it’s too overwhelming.

Your Word tells me that for You

nothing is impossible

and yet, though I pray and I pray,

nothing changes.

So now, what? What do I do

with what for me is impossible?

I can’t give up because

I’m no quitter, Lord.

You tell me I’ve got to trust,

to trust solely in you.

I’ve tried but..

I’m losing hope

and I don’t want

to feel to like this.

I’m desperate, please,

let me know you’re there.

Give me the hope I lack,

show me

the way out of this abyss,

show me

what you want me to do.

Lord, please hear me,

Show me what’s possible

and if it’s not, I guess

all I can say is...

Amen.
